In 1996 he took over the reins of Hillsdale Animal Hospital and began to specialize in complementary and alternative veterinary medicine (CAVM). After completing courses in animal chiropractic and veterinary acupuncture during 1997-1998, Dr. Fischer obtained certification by meeting stringent requirements in these specialty areas from the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association (AVCA) and the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS). Herbal medicine was next on the CAVM agenda, and upon completion of a course in Chinese Herbology in 2002, he received certification from the Healing Oasis Wellness Center in Sturtevant, Wisconsin. Currently, Dr. Fischer continues his studies in these areas as well as having developed a strong interest in nutrition and nutritional medicine.

Melanie first started at Hillsdale Animal Hospital as Dr. Fischer’s intern. Melanie graduated from William Paterson University with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology with a focus on animal behavior and physiology. With her degree, she is applying to several veterinary schools, hoping to follow Dr. Fischer’s footsteps in becoming a small animal veterinarian with a focus on integrative medicine. Prior to joining the staff at Hillsdale, Melanie working at Petvalu, where she was trained by the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in canine, feline, avian, fish, small animal, and reptile nutrition. Melanie’s love for animals has no limitations. She has 2 rescued dogs, a rescued cat, and 3 birds. In the past, she has also had turtles, fish, and several species of small animals. During her free time, she enjoys shopping, swimming, reading, and spending time with her family and pets.

Tracey lives in Dumont with her family and 2 rescue Pitties named Maizey and Blue. She has always felt a deep connection to animals fur-ever! Always having had a dog, cat, hamster, or parakeet to care for while growing up, she knew animals were her passion. Starting her experience in California, working at a boarding and training facility, where training rescue dogs were a welcome requirement, she knew she was on the right path. Animal behavior and creating that unshakable bond with an animal was amazing, rewarding, and fascinating to her. Tracey then went on to work at Berkeley Animal Care & Control, nurturing and caring for mistreated and abandoned animals. Fostering animals and temperament testing many dogs and cats solidified the fact that for Tracey, animals were her life’s work. After moving back to New Jersey, she was employed at Oradell Animal Hospital and a day care and grooming facility. She finally found Dr. Fischer and Hillsdale Animal Hospital and truly loves her job!

Toni is our newest addition to Hillsdale Animal Hospital. She has always had a love for animals since she was a little girl; whether she was rescuing or owning her own animals. She grew up in the area and attended Pascack Valley High School. Prior to coming to Hillsdale Animal Hospital, Toni worked as a licensed cosmetologist. During her free time, Toni enjoys shopping and spending time with her family. One of Toni’s goals while working at Hillsdale Animal Hospital is to build more knowledge about holistic and integrative medicine.
