Dr. Kenneth D. Fischer

Veterinarian

Dr. Kenneth D. Fischer earned his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1991. Upon graduation, he completed a rotating internship in medicine and surgery at Oradell Animal Hospital, a renowned specialty referral practice in Oradell, NJ. In 1996 he took over the reins of Hillsdale Animal Hospital and began to specialize in complementary and alternative veterinary medicine (CAVM). After completing courses in animal chiropractic and veterinary acupuncture during 1997-1998, Dr. Fischer obtained certification by meeting stringent requirements in these specialty areas from the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association (AVCA) and the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS). Herbal medicine was next on the CAVM agenda, and upon completion of a course in Chinese Herbology in 2002, he received certification from the Healing Oasis Wellness Center in Sturtevant, Wisconsin. Currently, Dr. Fischer continues his studies in these areas as well as having developed a strong interest in nutrition and nutritional medicine.

Mike

Veterinary Technician

Mike has been part of the Hillsdale Animal Hospital family for the longest amount of time. His love of working with animals began at age 12 while volunteering at Van Saun Park. He later became part of a training program at Oradell Animal Hospital where he worked for 9 years in various positions before moving on to another practice. He passed the National Veterinary Technician Exam in 1999, is a certified veterinary technician, and has over 20 years of hospital experience and training. Mike combines technical skills with a strong educational background. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. In his spare time, Mike enjoys tending to his large planted aquarium, playing the guitar/bass, fishing, and spending time with his cats.

Ryan

Veterinary Technician

From a young age, Ryan has felt a strong bond with all animals. With over 20 years of experience as a veterinary technician, Ryan has devoted his life to keeping animals happy and healthy. In his spare time, Ryan enjoys sculpting, cooking, and reading a good book.

Melanie

Receptionist

Melanie first started at Hillsdale Animal Hospital as Dr. Fischer’s intern. Melanie graduated from William Paterson University with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology with a focus on animal behavior and physiology. With her degree, she is applying to several veterinary schools, hoping to follow Dr. Fischer’s footsteps in becoming a small animal veterinarian with a focus on integrative medicine. Prior to joining the staff at Hillsdale, Melanie working at Petvalu, where she was trained by the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in canine, feline, avian, fish, small animal, and reptile nutrition. Melanie’s love for animals has no limitations. She has 2 rescued dogs, a rescued cat, and 3 birds. In the past, she has also had turtles, fish, and several species of small animals. During her free time, she enjoys shopping, swimming, reading, and spending time with her family and pets.

Cassidy

Receptionist

Cassidy is new to the area and has found happiness working at Hillsdale Animal Hospital. She graduated from the University at Albany in May of 2019 with a major in Psychology and Business. She was unsure of what career path she was going to take, but was open to all possibilities. One thing she knew she would enjoy was a working environment with animals. Cassidy has been an “animal-lover” for her entire life. She has ridden horses since she was young, and made it on her college equestrian team. She now owns one of her own, Charlie. She also has a rescued cat named Pansy and plans to adopt many more animals in the near future. In her spare time, Cassidy enjoys being with her family, relaxing outside, or playing with her furry friends. She is excited to learn and grow with Dr. Fischer and the team, and see where the future takes her.
